This is the draft cover for my magazine. I styled it on the first drawing that I did. The model used here is the model I will using on my final cover however her costume and make up will be different. The background will also be different.
I agree with Luke. That white space is nice but also distracting. You'll need to get pictures up of similar magazines onto your blog to prove why you can get away with being so unconventional.
I'd either leave it completely blank and move the barcode down to the bottom or I'd add in more text in the form of the date, price and some form of cover line/spine message like Q does.
Try and be braver with the background. In your blog you've used Wavves so look at the King Of The Beach vid

and try and get some of that attitude into your work and they have that quirky low fi style of Devendra B.
It's really good! I think you need to fill in some of that space above the photo where the masthead is but other than that well done

It wasn't Wavves it was Best Coast but the point still stands.
